Bluewater Highway Band- Medicine Man

I just ordered the album from this band. I saw them last week on the Texas Music Scene and really liked this song. I find a lot of great new music from watching that show (the other place I like is KPFT radio). That show is one of the very few things I watch on TV anymore.

It comes on right after Saturday Night Live (which I still like to watch- even tho they’re not nearly as funny as they used to be). They still come out with some really good stuff occasionally. I make it a point to watch it.

The Bluewater Highway is also a favorite place for me. It runs up the beach from Surfside to Galveston. I’ve had a lot of good times along that road. 🙂

I wonder if thats where they got their name? Just checked, I guess it is. Turns out they’re from right here in Lake Jackson, TX. 🙂

Medicine Man

from Things We Carry by Blue Water Highway BanD

Written by: Zack Kibodeaux

Well honey, here I come, I got a wagonload
A million different words I’m putting on for show
I’m peddling my heart

It sees your careful walk hiding a gypsy stare
And I know just the thing, woman if you dare
Step right on through

And I’ll do it all for you
I’ll do it all for you
I am the Medicine Man

I traveled all the land in a depression line
I bought and sold my love one too many times
But now those days are done

‘Cause under the things I own, I am the one you need
And in your snake oil smile, the cure for my disease
I’d break my heart in two

And I would do it all for you (c’mon girl, c’mon girl)
I’d do it all for you (c’mon girl, c’mon girl)

‘Cause I can see your fever rising
And I got all you need inside
You’re out on a ledge with your head in your hands
You got a bleeding heart honey, I am the Medicine Man

You (c’mon girl, c’mon girl)
I’d do it all for you (c’mon girl, c’mon girl)
I’d do it all for you (c’mon girl, c’mon girl)
I’d do it all for you (c’mon girl, ohh)

I can see your fever rising
And I got all you need inside
You’re out on a ledge with your head in your hands
You got a bleeding heart honey, I am the Medicine Man

Pink and Blue- Phoebe Hunt and the Gatherers

I stayed up late last night to watch Saturday Night Live and the Texas Music Scene. Those are 2 of the only shows I’ll turn on the TV to watch anymore. The Texas Music Scene always has really wonderful musicians on there and it’s a great way to learn about new music (the other way is to listen to KPFT on the radio).

I saw this band on the show last night and really enjoyed listening to their song. They played one called “Lint Head Gal”. Phoebe was fantastic on the violin/fiddle (I’ve been wanting to learn how to play lately). She explained how the song came to be written, about a friend’s grandmother who used to work in the textile mills back in the day.

This song is a little more mellow, but it still shows off her beautiful voice and nice work on the fiddle. The rest of the band is great too. I definitely plan to find more of their music.

PINK & BLUE- LYRICS

I like to pick at my wounds until the bleed
Take in the moon on a bended knee
Stare at the sky in the morning light
Pink and Blue are the color of God’s eyes

There’s a bell that rings when the school day ends
That’s not the bell that rings for me
Sitting here till I make amends
Sitting here till I am free
Only then will it ring for me

The morning air so damp the dew
I know you can feel it to
Burning off this childish pain
Help me see the endless change
Running again and again I stray
From what do I run away
Searching for what is underneath
Knowing here I am complete

I like to pick at my wounds until the bleed…

Songs of the Sea: Dead Sea

Here’s another one for my Songs of the Sea series. The Lumineers play ‘Dead Sea’. I really love this band. They have a lot of great songs -most have nothing to do with the water. 😉

I haven’t been spending as much time as usual listening to music. My mind just hasn’t been in the right place. I listen to the radio (KPFT) when I go to work (which hasn’t been nearly enough lately). At home I just haven’t been ‘in the mood’- for music- or anything else.

I’ve been spending more time on the computer than anything else lately. The last couple of days I’ve been seeing a lot of stuff to do with ‘just do it’. Even the song. Is it the universe trying to tell me to get off my ass and just DO it?

I think it probably is.

“Dead Sea”

I stood alone, upon the platform in vain
The Puerto Ricans they were playing me salsa in the rain
With open doors and manual locks
In fast food parking lots

I headed West, I was a man on the move
New York had lied to me, I needed the truth
Oh, I need somebody, needed someone I could trust
I don’t gamble, but if I did I would bet on us

Like the Dead Sea
You told me I was like the Dead Sea
You’ll never sink when you are with me
Oh, Lord, like the Dead Sea

Whoa, I’m like the Dead Sea
[Video version:] The nicest words you ever said to me
[Album version:] The finest words you ever said to me
Honey can’t you see,
I was born to be, be your Dead Sea

You told me you were good at running away
Domestic life, it never suited you like a suitcase
You left with just the clothes on your back
You took the rest when you took the map

Yes, there are times we live for somebody else
Your father died and you decided to live
It for yourself you felt, you just felt it was time
And I’m glad, cause you with cats, that’s just not right

Like the Dead Sea
You told me I was like the Dead Sea
You’ll never sink when you are with me
Oh, Lord, I’m your Dead Sea

Whoa, I’m like the Dead Sea
The nicest words you ever said to me
Honey can’t you see
I was born to be, be your dead sea

I’ve been down, I’ve been defeated
You’re the message, I will heed it.
Would you stay,
Would you stay the night?

Dead Sea,
You told me I was like the Dead Sea
I never sink when you are with me
Oh, Lord, I’m your Dead Sea

Whoa, I’m like the Dead Sea
The nicest words you ever said to me
Honey can’t you see
I was born to be, be your Dead Sea

Trumped Up

While driving up to Houston this morning for the company required UKOG physical, I was listening to my favorite radio station (KPFT). They had a talk show on where they were making a huge big deal out of Donald Trump’s re-tweeting a certain quote.

WOW!

This is news today?

Apparently someone was trying to ‘trick’ Trump into re-tweeting quotes by Mussolini

Update, 11:45 a.m.: Gawker revealed it was their doing. The website created a bot in December to periodically spit out Mussolini quotes and credit them to Trump, hoping the presidential hopeful would eventually retweet them. “At the time of the account’s creation, Gawker Media Executive Editor John Cook expressed some concern that the joke behind the account was far too obvious, and wouldn’t trick anyone but a complete idiot,” writes Gawker’s Alex Pareene.

I’m not really sure what the point of that exercise was. Unless it was to create the kind of silly media firestorm that was going on this morning.

They were going on about would Trump endorse a quote by David Duke (former KKK leader), since he apparently endorsed a quote by Mussolini. I say, SO WHAT if he did!?

I’m not a big fan of Trump. I think he’s a jerk. I don’t think he would make a good President, but I think the same thing about all the rest of the republicrats running. I have no problem with the media attacking a candidate on real issues. Attack Trump on the Wall, on his temper and how he thinks he would deal with foreign leaders. But a retweet on twitter? About an outlook on life? Simply because of WHO said it before? WTF???

First of all, here’s the quote…

“It is better to live one day as a lion than 100 years as a sheep.”

Will somebody please tell me what’s wrong with that? I mean the content, not who originally happened to say it.

Hey, I would say that myself! I DO feel that way. I don’t understand all the people who would rather live like sheep. I don’t get that mindset at all.

To me, life is about living the way YOU want to live YOUR life! It’s NOT about following the leader, never taking chances or never having any responsibility.

This is the way I feel about life…

What’s the deal now? We can never express a view that someone we despise now happened to express in the past? Can’t some people we hate now have had some good ideas?

Does liking a quote somebody said once, mean that you love and endorse everything that person ever said or did?

I hope not, but that’s the way the media is playing it. Seems like the way the media plays it is the way most Americans see things.

Living like a lion means thinking for YOURSELF! It means living YOUR life in freedom, the way we were all meant to live.

Here’s a link to one story about it, here’s another. You can google Trumps Mussolini quote if you really want to read more about it. I’ll leave you with one more graphic (none of these are mine- they all come straight off google).

Let me know what you think, do you think they should make a big deal out of WHO said something rather than WHAT they said? Do you think Trump is a jerk? Why or why not? What about the rest of the republicrats?

Chillin’

I got home from offshore the other day and I’m still trying to get back in sync with things around here. I’m still pretty far off the sleep schedule, but slowly getting back to normal.

Last night I stayed up late watching TV. I watched Saturday Night Live, then stayed up for the Texas Music Scene and the Conspiracy Show. Yeah, I love all that stuff!

  • Humor- not politically correct.
  • Music- that never gets played on the radio, (or maybe only on KPFT).
  • Conspiracy theories- too many questions for the ‘official story’ to be accepted as told (no, I don’t believe all that stuff, I just think the questions they bring up are VERY interesting and deserve a wider audience).

Those are 3 of my favorite shows! Too bad they’re on so late at night. Then again, if they were on in the daytime, I’d never be around to watch them.

During the day yesterday, I cooked up some banana nut muffins and a big pot of 15 bean soup with the hambone I had left from last time home (I cut up the ham and froze most of it for later). I worked through a bunch of paperwork: mail, bills, etc. I got online and made a few blog posts. I did some Facebooking. I took a walk and checked out how my plants were doing (lots of tiny lemons, raspberries barely growing, grapes on 1 vine!).

So today was just a lazy Sunday. I slept late, got up around noon. I made it out to the store to pick up a few things (strawberries on sale). I read the Sunday papers. I registered for the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) and the KP Happy Hour.

The conference starts tomorrow and goes on all week but I’ll probably only go on Tuesday. It’s a HUGE big deal here in Houston every year. You can find out all about everything to do with oil drilling. I think it’s pretty interesting and try to go if I’m in town. Good thing I live nearby tho, since almost every hotel room in Houston was already booked up yesterday.

I guess tomorrow I’ll keep on with the paperwork and maaaybe even get started on the taxes! I got my property tax appraisals in the mail and oh boy did it get me going! They doubled the price on most everything! That’s a post for another day.

I’m trying to stay mellow!
