Conundrum
The definition of the word Conundrum is: something that is puzzling or confusing.
Here are six Conundrums of life in the United States of America:
1. America is capitalist and greedy – yet half of the population is subsidized.
2. Half of the population is subsidized – yet they think they are victims.
3. They think they are victims – yet their representatives run the government.
4. Their representatives run the government – yet the poor keep getting poorer.
5. The poor keep getting poorer – yet they have things that people in other countries only dream about.
6. They have things that people in other countries only dream about – yet they want America to be more like those other countries.
Think about it! And that, my friends, pretty much sums up the USA in the 21st Century.
Makes you wonder who is doing the math.
I didn’t come up with the above, a friend sent it to me in an email. I thought it was worth putting it out there for a few thoughts from the rest of you out there. This part is all mine. 🙂
How did we turn into such a socialist country from what was once the most free country on the planet? How did we turn from a country founded SOLELY to support and protect INDIVIDUAL LIBERTY into this mess we have now?

I’ll answer your question with on of my own:
Why have we let several generations learn that they do not have to work? Too many of our “poor” ARE victims. Victims of what they have been taught – they are worthless, they can’t/won’t/shouldn’t be anything except drones taking their government subsidies.
How can this downward spiral be turned around, and the downtrodden given hope again? Given purpose, and a reason to try?
Where to begin? An observation: Apathy is running rampant and no one seems to care.
These United States started with a clean slate and we didn’t arrive at our present condition overnight. In the earliest days we applauded our leaders for doing things that were not strictly constitutional but were “for the good of the nation”. This was the first nudge toward the slippery slope.
As a people we bought into the notion of manifest destiny and did things collectively that no single God-fearing American would ever contemplate doing on his own.
We “minded our own business” while leaving all that “political stuff” to the folks elected to take care of it. Somehow we expected altruism from those elected officials and bureaucrats only to find that they acted first out of self-interest.
Any system of government that will allow people to enter office, have no other means of support beyond a modest salary, spend an entire career and then emerge with a personal fortune has to be suspect.
This could go on and on but to write a coda, allow me to offer an opinion. The worst thing that has ever happened to our system of electing people to office was the deliberate recruitment of the low information voter.
Once the knee stops jerking think about it. Without regard to party label, when you have a majority of the electorate voting for programs and entitlements that are impossible to achieve and electing people who have no ability to fulfill the promises made or any accountability when they fail to deliver, you have today’s America.
