i am also sailing seven seas already 10 years but still did not find freedom:)
I was just curious to ask u as i see the pic of drillship u work on, how hard is to get engineer (engine room department) job there for qualified, certified marine engineer with 6 year experience of work on almost similar diesel electric power plant (DP) we use on most recent Cruise Ships i work on but looking to move in offshore industry 🙂

I haven’t found freedom yet either, it’s for sure not to be found in America anymore, regardless of what people say. 🙁
As for work on drillships, it seems to be the luck of the draw. All the drilling companies say they want 3-5 years of drillship experience, but how to get it?
They are all building new ships so will be needing to crew them up soon. They will HAVE to start taking people with other than drillship experience, they are already poaching from each other too much!
Best I can tell you is to put your resume/CV up on all the industry websites like rigzone, gcaptain, oilpro and contact some of the temp agencies like C-Mar (who is the one I work for- they have offices around the world).
Maybe if you get a few trips with a temp agency, you’ll get a foot in the door to get a permanent job.
As an engineer, you should have a much better chance then I did as a DPO.

Yes i will do like that, actually i am already for a while using rigzone, oil carriers and similar sites. It seems i have to be persistent , patient and most of all lucky to get in there.
Once more Thank you very much for your time, will let u know if i need some more info regarding some necessary courses required for work and easier breakthrough in offshore industry.

A lot of it does depend on luck. A lot more depends on if you happen to know somebody who works at the place you’re trying to get hired on. 😉

Unfortunately you are so right. I am very aware of that fact. I do know few people ,ex colleges who are there now because they had insiders to push them, but i am too proud to ask from them the same. That is what i hate most , that someones recommendation sometimes takes over and worth’s more than higher qualifications and experience.
Regarding luck I know example of a guy flying in the plane to his next ship assignment and next to him was sitting one lady.Of course she was recruiter in one of world leading drilling companies!!? and now he is there engine room operator. I will have to start u fly to Aberdeen more often 🙂
It seems i will have to find somewhere my luck . Maybe on this blog 🙂

you should try Ensco and Transocean, I know they’re both hiring. Too bad they only will officially go through online applications which are not very user friendly. 🙁
